Enhancing Safety and Wildlife Management at Primrose Community Nature Trust: Our Summer Fencing Project
As we embrace the last warmth of summer (what summer!), we’re excited to share an important project underway at Primrose Community Nature Trust that, while not the most visible, is crucial for the ongoing management and safety of the nature reserve. This season, we’re focusing on a significant task on the far side of the reserve—a project that’s been long overdue since the establishment of Primrose Nature Reserve.
When the reserve was first created, the boundary on the far side was never clearly defined, leaving a gap in our ability to fully manage and protect the area. To address this, we’re partnering with the River Rivers Trust in an intricate and challenging effort to install a new fence along this part of the reserve. The installation of this fencing is vital for ensuring the area is safely enclosed, while also allowing wildlife to move freely in and out of the reserve as they naturally would.
We are incredibly thankful for the innovative design of the fencing system and the tireless work of the River Rivers Trust’s management and volunteers. Their dedication, alongside our trustee John Milne, has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. The collaboration between our teams has been nothing short of extraordinary.
A special mention must go to the residents living near the far side of the reserve. Their cooperation has been key in determining the correct line for the fence. By working closely with them, we’ve been able to ensure the fence is placed at the appropriate distance from the drainage channel. This careful planning not only secures the reserve but also respects the residents’ space, allowing them to continue enjoying their gardens, separate from the nature reserve.
We anticipate that this important work will be completed by September. Once finished, we will have a fully delineated reserve with safety fencing around all potential access points. This will not only fulfill insurance requirements but will also ensure that our wildlife management practices are comprehensive and effective.
While this project might not grab headlines, its importance cannot be overstated. It’s a crucial step in maintaining the integrity and safety of Primrose Nature Reserve for years to come. We look forward to completing this work and appreciate the continued support from our community and partners in making this possible.
Stay tuned for more updates as we progress towards the completion of this essential project!
